Finding and Learning Violin Songs

This article is designed to help you narrow your search for violin songs.  We will discuss music genres and highlight some of the differences.  When you know what you want in specific terms, it becomes much easier to find.

Are you a violinist or a fiddle player?  What is the difference?  How does the answer to those questions affect my search for violin songs?

While there is virtually no difference between a violin and a fiddle, the distinction between the instrumentalists can be vast.  That difference is simply a matter of personal taste.  Musicians who lean toward a classical genre would consider themselves a violinist, and would therefore be looking for violin songs.  Fiddle players, on the other hand, would be looking for folk music, Irish tunes, etc.    You should also be able to locate violin songs among inspirational, gospel, and even some jazz genres.

Now we proceed to the next question.  What are you going to do with the violin songs?  Are you looking for sheet music, or are you after an MP3 file that you can download to your IPOD?  Are you interested in a particular artist, or do you have a particular violin song in mind?  Providing these answers will steer you away from “information overload” and help you find what you need.

You may ask, “What if I want to hear the violin songs for myself, and then print out sheet music so I can play them?”  You will then need to look for violin songs that are available in MIDI format.  MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) files will play on most computer systems. There is a myriad of software programs that are designed to convert MIDI files to sheet music, and many of the converter programs are available for free on a trial basis.  You can also convert your MP3 files to MIDI and then print them as sheet music.  (Again, most of these converters are available on a trial basis free of charge.)

If you are looking for a particular piece among violin songs, you may want to refine your search by looking for the artist’s name.  You can also search for a particular composer or even the name of an album.

You may be interested in symphony orchestra albums that feature violin songs.  Your local university’s music department can be a tremendous resource.  The university is also a great place to get technical help on a particular violin song.  You can enlist the help of a student who is willing to violin tutor you, or you can secure the services of the instructor.  Whether you are looking for a particular piece of music or an entire collection of violin songs, the local university is a great place to start.

As you search for your violin songs, you are now equipped with knowledge that will allow you to get exactly what you need.  From the style of music that you desire, to the file format that will properly work with your software, you can now make your choices for violin songs with a greater degree of confidence.
